Label TextBancroft’s desire to own not only an original work from the series but also reproductions of one of the complete sets is fascinating. The set of photogravures was framed and hung in the dining room of his home, Rockford, suggesting they were valued both for relationship to the painting of Council Chamber which was hanging in the adjacent drawing room and as objects of fine art in their own right, to be admired for their aesthetic qualities.
