Label TextAlphonse Mucha was a Czech artist known best for the distinctive Art Nouveau style evident in his paintings, illustrations, posters and advertisements, postcards, and theater designs. He moved to Paris in 1887 and by 1895 his work was described as in the "Mucha style," which soon became known as Art Nouveau. His subjects were often young women in flowing robes surrounded by lush flowers. In contrast to contemporary poster designers, Mucha used pale pastel colors. His work gained international recognition at 1900 Universal Exhibition in Paris.
