Label TextAlthough French by birth, and training, Alphonse Legros came to London in 1863, and within a decade was appointed Professor of Fine Art at the Slade School, a position he held until 1893. He was closely associated with various members of the Pre-Raphaelite circle including Edward Burne-Jones and Dante Gabriel Rossetti. This landscape was one of two the artist gave to Rossetti, who in turn bequeathed them to Fanny Cornforth.
