Label TextBorn in Puerto Rico and raised in New York, Rafael Ferrer explores memories of his native land in his figurative paintings. In Descarga del Monte VII, Ferrer fragmented and stylized the fruit and plant forms, making them more abstract, yet capturing the lush and sensuous essence of a tropical island. This painting is one of a series which pays homage to The Jungle (1943, Museum of Modern Art, New York), a famous painting by Cuban artist Wilfredo Lam.
