Label TextThe poster depicts the artist Robert Blum, the subject of The Century's main article of the month. Although William Sergeant Kendall was primarily a painter and teacher, he created a number of posters, including three for Scribner's. Kendall lettered the posters himself, replacing the magazine's usual masthead. One critic described Kendall's pared-down figures as "telegraph utterance, short, nervous, incisive, spoken with a dash and go..."
