Label TextAda Forman was an American dancer who became known for her "Javanese" dancing in the early 20th century. Forman first performed Javanese-inspired dances for Denishawn (the company of Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn) in 1915. When this was painted, she was appearing in the Greenwich Village Follies as a Javanese dancer.
