Label TextA German inscription indicates that this image was designed in a youth class in the School of Arts and Crafts in Vienna. The artist, Herta Zuckermann, studied there with artist and educator Franz Cizek, a painter and reform educator who believed in allowing his students a great deal of freedom in their instruction in order to foster their creativity. Zuckermann went on to a career as an illustrator. The printer's imprint in the triangle in the lower right represents the Vienna Secession, a group formed in 1897 by Austrian artists who had resigned from the Association of Austrian Artists, which they regarded as conservative and outmoded.
The inscription "Aged 14 years" may have been added when the print was reproduced for sale as part of an exhibition of the work of Cizek's students that traveled in England and the United States.
