Label TextNew York native Rugus Zogbaum became known as a specialist in the illustration of military subjects. The author Archibald Forbes was a British war correspondent. He covered events described as the Second Anglo-Afghan War in 1878–1880, when England invaded and occupied part of Afghanistan, provoking an unsuccessful resistance by Afghan forces. Forbes' narrative and Zogbaum's illustration reflected the British view of Afghans as bloodthirsty and uncivilized.
