Here, her materlalism begins to dawn on him, in a scene that marks the beginning of their marital split. Raleigh specialized in depicing scene of high society, often in popular fiction for The Saturday Evening Post. He also illustrated for distinguished authors such as F. Scott Fitzgerald, William Faulkner, and Sinclair Lewis.
