Label TextIn late 1925 and early 1926, The Country Gentleman published a series of five articles by Paul de Kruif, author of the popular book The Microbe Hunters, about medical discoveries. Louis Pasteur (in the upper right) recalls a scene from his childhood, when a rabid wolf terrorized his village, later inspiring him to find a vaccine for rabies. Robert Lambdin employs a long, narrow view, a fanged wolf, and a child hurtling toward the viewer to intensify the drama of Pasteur's memory.
