Label TextAfter 1909, Sloan's palette brightened noticeably, as he began to experiment with Hardesty Maratta's paints and color system. One of many color systems in the early 20th century, Maratta associated color with music and advocated painting in chords of colors. According to Sloan's notes, this painting used the Maratta triad of red-purple, orange, and yellow-green.
