Label TextThe Century Magazine was first published in 1881 by The Century Company of New York City as a successor to their Scribner’s Monthly Magazine. It ceased publication in 1930. Like Harper's and Scribner's, The Century Magazine published not just light fiction, but also the work of authors who would enter the canon of American literature. Cover artist Francis Day used the easily visible bright colors and clear graphic style favored by art editors and easily visible at newsstands.
