Francis Day
American painter, 1863–1942
Day exhibited at the National Academy of Design 1888-1897, won a prize there in 1895, and was elected an Associate in 1906. He also exhibited in Philadelphia at PAFA in 1893, at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1894 and 1908, in Boston in 1902 and at the Corcoran Gallery in 1907.
Recorded address for Day include Lanesboro, Massachusetts, New York City (1888-1889; 1908); and Nutley, New Jersey 1892-97. His works reside in the Montclair (NJ) Art Museum and the Lanesboro (MA) Town Hall, among others.
He signed his paintings "Francis Day"; the name "James" appears as his first name in most references. There are no known works after 1908.
