Label TextBetjemann manipulates her photographic prints in several ways: by altering the negative, hand-developing and hand-coloring. The artist is interested in the passage of time, and her manipulations lend an aged look to her prints, which appear to have been printed from old glass negatives, scratched, spotted and broken. This idea of passing time is also apparent in her selection of old or deteriorating buildings as subjects, in this case, a gate at London's Highgate Cemetery.
