Label TextThe Mancunian architect, Alfred Darbyshire was a cousin and close friend of Samuel Bancroft, introducing him to Pre-Raphaelite art and encouraging him in his passion for the work of this group of artists. Given his professional occupation, it is not surprising that he would have been compelled to paint the interior of the great medieval building, Lincoln Cathedral. As the watercolor attests, Darbyshire was a consummate painter.
