Label TextImogen Cunningham began a series of photographs of her friend Clare Shepard in 1910, when they were teens. In this softly focused Pictorialist print, the photographer presents her friend as a timeless, romantic character. Early in her career, Cunningham was heavily influenced by the romantic poetry and prose of British Pre-Raphaelite authors, primarily William Morris and Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
