Label TextThe 1893 opening of the play The Second Mrs. Tanqueray in London caused quite a scandal, as it dealt with a woman with a "past" who had married into society. When Olga Nethersole, a sultry English actress, created a sensation by playing Mrs. Tanqueray on the New York stage, Gilbert created a "fan" book about her. Gilbert was a camouflage artist during World War I as well as a pioneer in animation.
