Label TextDavid Graham's color photographs document America in its idiosyncratic splendor. Over a span of twenty years Graham has traveled the United States photographing the uniqueness and eccentricity of its inhabitants. Graham's images are straightforward, non-judgmental, and, at times poignant, although the chosen lifestyles and pass-times of the ordinary people captured on film can be humorously startling. Graham's portraits of celebrity impersonators, cross dressers and club members are clearly focused and evenly lit to reveal the minute details of the subject and his or her environment. This attention to the most banal of details gives Graham's photographs their 'punch' while providing insight into the cultural fabric of American life in all of its diversity.
