Label TextHinman was among a small group of American artists in the early 1960s who began creating shaped canvases. By stretching canvas over a wooden support, the artist articulates geometric volumes that are reinforced or contradicted by painted geometric planes. In essence, hard-edge abstract painting is combined with simplified structure.
