Label TextThis work is part of Sherman's Sex series in which the artist engaged the vocabulary of pornography. The photographs feature lurid color, glossy finish and close-ups of female body parts. The Sex series was produced in the wake of the culture wars over NEA-funded projects by Andres Serrano and Robert Mapplethorpe. In defiance of those demanding the censorship of "obscenity" in art, Sherman posed plastic medical dummies in provocative and disturbing ways.
