Label TextThe inner scene is derived from the landscape of Ipswich, Massachusetts where Dow spent several summers. The landscape image is framed by a band of pale green tint with darker green poppies trailing through the space. Dow's study of Japanese art is reflected in the juxtaposition of different patterned areas and in the broad flat colors of the landscape. Dow studied art in Paris and Boston where he was introduced to Japanese prints at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.George Wesley Bellows
