Label TextIn the 1930s and 1940s, Charles Burchfield was described as a painter of the American Scene, praised for his attention to landscape, architecture, and light. Because of the psychological power of his pictures, Burchfield was also discussed as a forerunner of the meticulous, fantastic “Magic Realism” of the young Andrew Wyeth.
