Label TextAlphonse Legros was French by birth but moved to London permanently in 1863 where he became closely associated with members of the pre-Raphaelite circle. Although trained as a painter he was joined in the Etching Revival of the late 19th-century. The sitter for this portrait, Seymour Haden, was also an accomplished etcher despite training and practicing as a surgeon.
