Label TextThe dealer Thomas Agnew & Sons marketed this set of photogravures as an edition of 525, of which 400 were designated as ‘proofs’ signed by the artist. The reference to ‘proofs’ and the signature of the artists suggests that at this stage in the history of fine art reproduction, these images were considered in a manner similar to (original) artists prints. However, unlike a print, there is no mention on the paper or in any of the correspondence or advertising material related to these images of the person or firm responsible for their production.
