Label TextA writer and artist, Lear travelled widely during his lifetime. While travelling he produced large quantities of colored wash drawings, which he converted later in his studio into saleable, oil and watercolor paintings. This highly finished watercolor is a studio work based on sketches made at Gebel Serbal or Mount Serbal, a mountain located in Wadi Feiran in the southern Sinai desert, which he visited in January 1849 on his first visit to Egypt.
