Label TextIn what is probably Besnard’s most famous etching, he drew inspiration from the geisha imagery of Japanese art. He presents two courtesans, who seem to emerge from their hallucinogenic haze, one staring audaciously at the viewer and fingering her feathery plume, one gazing fixedly at her companion.
