Label TextAfter studying at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women, Alice Barber Stephens worked as a wood engraver before going on to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where she studied with Thomas Eakins. She then continued her art training in Paris. From the mid-1880s, her illustrations appeared in many major magazines; she also produced advertising art, including a campaign for Ivory Soap.
