Label TextRudolph Dirks (1877–1968) is best known as the cartoonist who invented The Katzenjammer Kids, a long-running comic strip that launched in William Randolph Hearst's New York Journal in 1897. Dirks also painted, exhibiting pictures with the Society of Independent Artists between 1917 and 1922.
