Label TextFrank DuMond illustrated commercial signs in his native Rochester, New York, before studying at the Art Students League in New York City, earning his fees there by newspaper illustration. During his career he was a painter, illustrator, and teacher. This scene depicts three participants in a mystery story about a painter who forges works by mediaeval artist Albrecht Dürer, and the old woman (at right) who considers herself a Dürer expert. The drama concludes in the conservation laboratory of Munich's fine art museum, as new scientific techniques reveal the painting's history.
