Label TextHerod orders wine and fruit to be brought to share with Salomé, despite her repeated spurning of his advances. “Nibble on a nice little piece of this fruit, and then I’ll gobble up the rest,” Herod pronounces, with patently lecherous intent. Moser utilizes the traditional still-life format to subtly symbolize the feast before the sacrifice.
