Label TextThe emaciated body of Iokanaan as he rises from the cistern contrasts sharply with the upright, exotically clad soldiers who accompany him. His wasted form, modeled with swelling and curving “lining” technique, bears evidence of his faithful penitence, in marked contradiction to the character of Salomé, whose manipulative demands have led to this summons.
