Label Text"Aucassin and Nicolette" is a medieval French chantefable—a story told in a combination of prose and verse—dating from the 12th or 13th century. Helen Farr pictured the tale in a style reminiscent of medieval illuminated manuscripts. She produced this at 14 years of age for a play staged by the King-Coit School in New York. Her classmates at this progressive theatrical school included the children of prominent New York artists: Jean Bellows (daughter of George and Emma Bellows), Pauline Manship (daughter of sculptor Paul Manship), and Mary Perrine (daughter of painter Van Dearing Perrine).
