Label TextRecto for Female Figure Study. On this page from a sketchbook, Helen Farr Sloan recorded comments on Cézanne (likely John Sloan's) as she sketched Ruth Martin. A friend of the Sloans since the 1930s, Martin had used her modest salary as a secretary to build a collection of John Sloan's art. In 1947 John Sloan completed a portrait of Martin with her cat Winkie.
