Label TextThe Italian landscape painter Nino Costa was of particular influence on a group of English artists working in Italy in the 1860s and 1870s including Edward Burne-Jones and Marie Spartali Stillman. Costa’s work was celebrated in England with a large exhibition at the Fine Art Society in London in 1882. Although best known for his lyrical landscapes, this closely observed rendering of an individual element of the landscape, is a format that was also practiced by the young Pre-Raphaelite painters.
