Label TextA prolific painter and teacher in California, New York, and Massachusetts from the 1930s through the 1950s, Hofmann introduced many American artists to European modernism. The influence of Cubism can be seen in the distorted perspective and broken surfaces of this painting. The bright colors show the influence of Hofmann’s teacher, Wassily Kandinsky, an Expressionist painter.
