Label TextThis print shows the mechanism of a coffee grinder. It was based on a painting that Marcel Duchamp made for his brother Raymond Duchamp-Villon in 1911, when Villon requested small paintings for his kitchen as wedding gifts from his friends. In 1912, Duchamp's other brother Jacques Villon made an etching based on the painting for the book Du "Cubisme" by Albert Gleizes and Jean Metzinger. In 1947 Du "Cubisme" was republished in a limited edition with eleven original etchings, including Coffee Mill.
