Label TextBritish author and member of Parliament Sir Norman Angell published the first edition of his book The Great Illusion in 1909, which stated that war, or any occupation or armed confrontation, was futile and damaging. This figure appears to represent his concept that only an international law court could ensure peace. Angell won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1933.

Oadley's representation of Angell's orderly approach to disputing nations (as seen in the background) reflects her own politcal beliefs.
