Label TextWijnand Otto Jan Nieuwenkamp (1874–1950) was a Dutch artist, illustrator, writer, architect, ethnographer, and collector of East Asian art. Nicknamed "The Wanderer" Nieuwenkamp was an inveterate traveler possessed of a restless intellect. Here he is pictured in front of one of his paintings, making it likely that this portrait was produced in his studio in Fiesole, Italy. Oakley traveled to Fiesole in 1928.
