Label TextClaes Oldenburg’s print shows a monumental water faucet proposed by the artist for a fantastic but specific public monument: a Cathedral in the Form of a Colossal Faucet, for Lake Union, Seattle. Pop art is a style in which the artist explores readily available images found in consumer culture in new and different ways. Here, Oldenburg manipulates the size of an ordinary kitchen faucet to create a proposal for an unlikely ecclesiastical structure.
