F. Gilbert Edge was a renowned illustrator and newspaper cartoonist. He served on the staffs of the New York World and the Baltimore Herald as chief of the advertising department and leading cartoonist, respectively. His illustrations are in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. According to a 1904 newspaper called The Fourth Estate, Edge’s face was used as the model for the hero of a popular novel (now unknown).
