Cecil Crosley BellAmerican artist and illustrator, 1906–1970

Bell was a commercial artist, painter, and printmaker. Born in Seattle, Washington, Bell took a job at Tacoma Engraving before moving to Chicago to study printmaking at the Art Institute. In 1930, he moved to New York, where he studied at the Art Students League with Harry Wickey and Charles Locke. He studied privately with John Sloan around 1931, and later returned to the League to study printmaking with Will Barnet. Bell worked as a commercial artist at Fox Films and as a free-lance illustrator. He exhibited regularly in New York in the 1930s and 1940s.
