A master printer, Bicknell is best known for his etchings based on paintings by other artists. Born in Winchester, Massachusetts, Bicknell studied at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts with Otto Grundmann and Frederic Crowinshield. In 1903, the Bibliophile Society of Boston commissioned Howard Pyle to illustrate The Bibliomaniac; or, Book-Madness by Thomas Frognall Dibden. The works were etched by W.H.W.
