Lin EmeryAmerican sculptor, 1926–2021

Lin Emery was known for her kinetic sculpture and large-scale public works. Born Lenore Emery, Emery changed her name to Lin at age 16. She attended the University of Chicago, the University of Mexico, Columbia University, and Syracuse University, eventually studying drawing in Paris before moving to the French Quarter of New Orleans. Emery co-founded Orleans Gallery, which was New Orleans' first artist co-op space and taught at Tulane University. While she was a figurative sculptor, her wind-powered abstract works found acclaim, leading Emery to exhibit at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts as well as in Hong Kong and Manila, the Philippines. She was the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts grant, an honorary doctorate from Loyola University of the South and the Louisiana Governor's Arts Award.
