Bert BeaverCanadian photographer, 1921–2012

Beaver joined the staff of the Rhode Island School of Design in 1967 and taught there until 1995. He served as the head of the photography department from 1972 to 1980. Before heading to RISD, Beaver served as a photographer in the Canadian Army during World War II and studied at the Provincial Institute of Technology in Calgary and the Institute of Design, Chicago, in the 1940s. He worked as a photojournalist in the 1950s and early 1960s. In the 1980s, Beaver collaborated on a project with IBM, becoming a pioneer in the use of computers in photography.
