Meyer VaismanAmerican-Venezuelan artist, born 1960

Meyer Vaisman was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1960 and was an active participant in the New York downtown art scene in the 1980s, having attended Parsons School of Design. He exhibited with other artists—Ashley Bickerton, Jeff Koons, and Peter Halley— associated with the Neo-Geo Movement and co-founded the East Village gallery, International With Monument, which was seen as a center for the movement. Neo-Geo is short for Neo-Geometric Conceptualism, a term referencing Pop Art and Minimalism with critique of commercialism in the 1980s. Vaisman experimented with commercial and photomechanical reproduction and appropriation of images from art history and popular culture.
