Napoleon SaronyAmerican lithographer and photographer, 1821–1896

Best known as a portrait photographer, Sarony began his career as an illustrator for Currier & Ives and started his own lithography firm with James Major in 1843. In 1867 he left lithography to open a photography studio. Sarony produced portraits of many celebrities, including the actress Sarah Bernhardt and authors Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) and Oscar Wilde.
