Edith Dimock

Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Edith Dimock studied with William Merritt Chase at the Art Students League and the New York School of Art. She shared a studio with May Preston (wife of artist James Preston) in the Sherwood Studios building. She married American painter William Glackens in 1904. She is best known for her humorous watercolor paintings, which were regularly exhibited in the early 20th century. She showed at the 1910 Independents Exhibition and sold several works at the 1913 Armory Show and she illustrated two books for children. She was active in the women's suffrage movement. Dimock is featured in a full-length portrait by Robert Henri and in many works by her husband.
