Blanche McManusAmerican painter and illustrator, 1870–1931

A native of Louisiana, Blanche McManus studied in London and Paris, and then returned to the U.S. in 1893 when she established a studio in Chicago. Beginning around 1900, her travels throughout Europe and North Africa with her writer husband Francis Milton resulted in a series of travel books illustrated by McManus. The illustrations often featured images of automobiles, a new invention at the time.
