Elizabeth E. KeeferAmerican etcher and teacher 1899–1989

An etcher and watercolorist, Keefer was born in Houston, Texas, and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League in New York. She worked as an assistant to etcher Joseph Pennell. In the late 1920s, Keefer was granted the rare permission to sketch on the Native American reservations of northern New Mexico. She returned to Texas in 1932 after her marriage to Mody Boatright. Keefer's papers are housed at the Briscoe Center for American History at the University of Texas, Austin.
