Albert Babb InsleyAmerican painter, 1842–1937

Insley spent his early years in Jersey City, New Jersey. He was an apprentice to his father Henry Earle Insley, one of America's pioneer photographers, and a drafting student of an architect uncle; he was otherwise self-taught. In the 1860s, he began his long career, becoming known for his paintings of New York City and its surrounding areas, as well as of the New England states.
